- detailed guidance on the information applicants will need to provide to complete the application process.
The Customer Service Centre assists claimants with special needs (e.g. those hard of hearing) and those wishing to process their claim through Irish. The Centre can also assist those with limited knowledge of the English language, including the commissioning of translation of key documents.
Where InjuriesBoard.ie considers that a Claimant is in a vulnerable position and may not appreciate the legal consequences of taking particular steps in connection with the claim, InjuriesBoard.ie must advise that claimant of the desirability of obtaining legal advice, (or such other advice as may be appropriate including linguistic, actuarial, medical, etc) or provide additional explanations or assistance.
If I apply directly, how much will it cost?
If you apply directly to InjuriesBoard.ie, you must submit a completed Application Form, a Medical Report and a fee of €50. The cost of the Medical Report and the application fee form part of the claim. The cost of the Medical Report is refunded in whole or in part at the discretion of InjuriesBoard.ie, together with the application fee when the claim proceeds to assessment and is accepted.

Can I ask an agent to make my claim for me?
You may chose to use an agent (such as a solicitor) to submit a claim and to correspond with InjuriesBoard.ie on your behalf. Where you use an agent, the question of the costs charged by that agent is a matter between you and your agent. There is no right to recover legal fees and expenses in the Board's process. InjuriesBoard.ie, in the exercise of its discretion may, however, on occasion direct the Respondent (the person or entity against whom a claim is being made) to pay some or all of the costs if, in the Board's opinion, these have been reasonably and necessarily incurred by the Claimant. This is explained further below.
Are there any circumstances in which some fees will be paid?
The law gives InjuriesBoard.ie discretion to direct the Respondent to pay certain costs. Those costs are the fees and expenses, which the Board considers in its discretion, have, in whole or in part, been reasonably and necessarily incurred by the Claimant in complying with the Board's application and assessment process.
The decision by InjuriesBoard.ie to allow such fees and expenses in any case is at the discretion of the Board. Where InjuriesBoard.ie requires any further reports to facilitate the assessment of a claim these will be arranged and paid for by the Board at its discretion.
If legal costs are being sought full details of the nature and extent of the costs must be submitted together with an explanation as to why (in the exercise of its discretion) InjuriesBoard.ie should allow all or part of such costs as having been reasonably and necessarily incurred in connection with your application.
Nothing in this section should be read as interfering in any way with your entitlement to engage a legal representative to act on your behalf in connection with the claim. You may choose to be legally represented or deal directly with InjuriesBoard.ie.
