Exercise and fitness makes a big difference to how you look and how you feel! It is essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Experts recommend that on average people should partake in 30 minutes of moderate activity a day. Regular exercise is the best way to prevent cardiovascular disease, the number one cause of death among Irish people.
Nowadays there are so many different forms of exercise available to us. It is important to choose something that you enjoy so that it does not become a chore! Swimming, cycling, jogging, aerobic dancing and walking are just some of the many enjoyable ways in which people can get fit and have fun too!
Exercise is important to help you:
- Keep a healthy weight
- Maintain a healthy heart
- Relieve stress and depression
- Increase energy
- Prevent osteoporosis and high blood pressure
- Lower the risk of diabetes and some forms of cancer
Some tips on how you can incorporate exercise into your daily routine:
- Walk to work
- Walk the kids to school
- Take the stairs in work
- Get off the bus a stop early and walk to your destination
- Schedule gym sessions for on the way to work or on the way home
- Exercise with a friend - it's a great way to catch up and keep fit at the same time!
