About InjuriesBoard.ie

InjuriesBoard.ie is a statutory body which provides independent assessment of personal injury compensation for victims of Workplace, Motor and Public Liability accidents. This assessment is provided without the need for the majority of current litigation costs, such as Solicitors, Barristers and Experts' fees, associated with such claims. In exceptional cases legal / expert fees may apply and InjuriesBoard.ie examines each case on its own merits.

What do we do?

We assess the amount of compensation due to an injured party.
We deliver compensation without the legal costs and experts fees that add more than 46% on average to the cost of a claim.
We reduce the amount of time it takes to finalise a compensation claim. Under the court system it can take approximately three years to settle a claim. It generally takes nine months to settle a personal injury claim via InjuriesBoard.ie.

Who works in InjuriesBoard.ie?

We are public servants with appropriate legal, insurance and medical expertise to assess compensation. We have also established an independent panel of medical experts throughout the country. As the activity levels within InjuriesBoard.ie increase the number of staff working in InjuriesBoard.ie will increase. Currently we have 78 staff employed in our assessment centre in Dublin. A further 17 people, who have responsibility for claim preparation and operation of the InjuriesBoard.ie helpline, are employed by our outsourced service centre provider in Cork.

How are we funded?

The Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB), now known as InjuriesBoard.ie was established under the PIAB Act 2003 and received Exchequer funding to support its establishment over 2004. Details are available in the annual Government Estimates publications (Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment Vote - subhead S3).

It is significant that InjuriesBoard.ie as a new state body is self-funding and not reliant on any Exchequer funding. The funding of InjuriesBoard.ie operations is met primarily by levying fees on Respondents (A Respondent is the Term we use to describe the person or entity against whom a claim is made) and by running a flexible organisation. The way we manage our caseload ensures our expenditure is proportionate to claims activity.
